About Us
Welcome to Spencer's on the Square...once one of the UK’s most successful and renowned auction houses, Henry Spencer’s auction house lay at the heart of market life in Retford and played a significant part in the social history of the town. As custodian of this fantastic building we feel that Spencer’s on the Square owes a duty to its heritage to be the very best that it can be in every possible way.
With this in mind, for Spencer’s we have adopted a mantra: quality throughout. This extends to every aspect of what we do; from the food you eat, the drinks you enjoy and the service ethos we encourage within our staff. It is our aim to provide you with an experience that is second to none, both in Retford and beyond.
This menu is, we believe, a reflection of that commitment to quality. We have carefully designed a range of dishes that incorporate the finest ingredients, locally sourced where possible, brought together with expert precision and beautifully presented for you to enjoy.
We are an inclusive venue which means we cater to most dietary requirements, including a large range of vegan and gluten free options. We also welcome families with children and are extremely dog friendly.
Catering
We cater for most dietary requirements, including vegan, nut allergic and gluten free. Whilst we take every practical precaution, we cannot always 100% guarantee against cross contamination.
We cater for bookings from 1 person to 120 people. We are the ideal venue for birthday celebrations, christenings, anniversaries, Christmas and also for one of the sadder occasions you may need to arrange.
We also offer outside catering and outside bar for external private events. Please enquire if you would like a quotation.
Children & Infants
We welcome children of all ages. We provide high chairs, have baby changing facilities and offer a separate children’s menu.
Parking & Transport
There are a number of public car parks within walking distance. We recommend the Chancery Lane and Churchgate car parks as the closest. Alternatively, the Churchgate car park at peak times.
All council run car parks are free between 6pm and 8am (please also check yourself).
We highly recommend that you avoid the Sports Direct car park due to ever changing practices.
Accessibility
All areas of the bar and restaurant are accessible to wheelchair users. Independent access is via the front door and we have a disabled toilet.
Retford benefits from a Changing Places toilet if you are unable to use standard accessible toilets. This facility is 100m from Spencer’s.
